On 24 July 2006 Gen Oscar Calderon, Chief of the Philippine National Police, finally approved and signed our petition for legalization of airsoft in the Philippines. Airsoft guns, which were previously classified as true firearms by the Rules and Regulations implementing the law on firearms P.D. 1866 as amended, were finally reclassified, as they should rightfully be, as airguns. AYOS! ROCK & ROLL! hehehe.....

It was a long hard battle. But as is the case with all righteous and worthy causes we had no doubt in our minds that good would always triumph and we would, in the end, emerge victorious.
The harder the fight, the sweeter is the victory. And yes, we had our hard times pursuing his initiative, this dream for which not just one singular individual or group would benefit, but rather the community at large. Surprisingly, the difficulties we encountered came not from the government agencies with which we were dealing with, or the police heirarchy with which our petition was filed, but rather from our own ranks, the seeds of cheap politicking, long deep-seated bitterness among teams and players, vested interests of individuals, and the commercial interests of selfish individuals.
If anything, there is an inspiring hope from this endeavor. This legalization effort proved to be the greatest unifying factor in the history of airsoft in the Philippines. Teams and individuals with long standing enmity, and those from different regions and provinces closed ranks and banded together for a common purpose for the betterment of everyone. May this unity that gave rise to this legalization effort, and which gave birth to the United Airsoft Alliance, continue to serve us into the future as we welcome the next generation of airsofters to our sport.
Let this be our legacy for furture generations of airsofters, that their right and privilege to play airsoft in the Philippines is secured. And let this victory be a lesson for the younger players and newer teams: WITH HARD WORK, PERSEVERANCE, AND NEVER ENDING PRAYER, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
In the same vein, let this legalization of airsoft in the Philippines, be a beacon of hope for our bretheren in other countries who as of this time still suffer under the yoke of unenlightened and oppressive governments, which seek to destroy our sport.
Make no mistake, the challenges and threats to our freedoms still pervade our government, and the halls of congress and the senate. Only eternal vigilance can guarantee our freedom to play airsoft. This we pledge as long as there is still work to be done in defense of our rights.
Congratulations to the entire airsoft community, this is our gift to you all, for free.
Remember the day: 24 July 2006 INDEPENDENCE DAY for airsoft.
