Hello everyone,
I just spent the weekend replacing the nylon bushings of my mp5sd6 with Deepfire and putting in Systema shims. Lapping of bushings was involved. So far so good, theres no side to side play and at least .5mm clearance between gear faces that would otherwise be touching. Everything else that has to touch has been sufficiently greased. When each gear is placed in the box alone and tested it takes almost no effort to turn them.
My questions are:
1 - When testing the gears individually, I gave each gear a good tug to see if it will keep turning freely. It does not. It stops right away instead of slowing down. Is this just right or should I lap the bushings a little bit more till it does?
2 - A couple of the gearbox holes for the bushings seem to be a bit worn so much so that the bushing falls out if you turn that side of the gearbox over. The other holes are tight just right. Right now im fixing it with a bit teflon tape. Is this fix okay or should I be looking for another brand of 6mm bushings? Has anybody else tried Deepfire bushings?
3 - Lapping some of the bushings made them super smooth so I thought why not go the extra mile and polish them? I figured the smoother the surface, less friction = best. Is this a good idea? Thorough cleaning to remove polish residue will be done of course.
