INTO THE EYE OF THE STORM

On a hot steamy Sunday morning of March 4, 2007, RBG Mercenaries were call into action to partake on a dangerous mission to be executed in staging area GRID DELTA or other wise called as BOILING WATER in the heart of a troubled country of Baghdad. The mission was straight forward, capture and defend the Oil Refinery from terrorist insurgent, the guys know that these type of ¡§Straight Forward¡¨ mission are most likely the one were courage and bravery is being tested and becoming ordinary.
Grid Delta is situated in a long dirt road and between two hilltops, enemy forces could come in on all direction and if our defense strategy fail, enemy could overrun our position in all corner like fire drying up the water in a pot, thus getting the nickname BOILING WATER. The team was consisted of LT the team leader, Royg support fire, Sparta support fire, Mclaren sniper and point and Oneal support fire and point. The team were ordered to be sent-in via HALO in this troubled land to specifically assist the primary NATO forces stationed in Baghdad in protecting and to hold the refinery before the main NATO Armored ground force arrive.
At the insertion point, LT was ordered to lead the command of the entire NATO forces for this mission, LT started gathering the troops and begin the plan for our defense strategy, LT thought of dividing the forces into three main element, one element covers the right dirt road, the other at the left and the main forces at the center where the refinery was located, we were about to deploy when suddenly a frantic radio message was picked up by our comm. Officer, it seems that a black hawk helicopter was shut down, as far as the radio transmission , the pilot able to manage to call on his radio after the crash, signifying that they survived the fall, but the difficult part of it was that they landed somewhere behind enemy line. No words were heard from JOC whether to go in and extract the pilots, but LT was concern that the pilots might not make it before the order from JOC. LT with the bold decision to defies protocol, organized a search party to locate and extract the downed pilots before the insurgent could get to them, some of the NATO soldiers were hesitant to go in, for we all know that it¡¦s spell dead by doing it. But, nonetheless LT sent in a small unit of NATO Special Forces to do the job, for we all believe that no one should be left behind and will not leave our comrades to the hand of the enemy. As the unit left to search for the pilots, LT approaches the commanding officer of the group and wished them luck, those were the last time we ever saw those brave person from that unit. As we positioned ourselves, RBG was ordered to hold the Left road together with the NATO sniper details, the rest of the entire forces headed towards the refinery. We were positioning ourselves when we heard gunshots; we knew that the NATO Special Forces going after the pilots, were in contact with the insurgent, radio comm. With the commanding officer sounded chaotic, but they knew that re-inforcement was impossible and instead stood their ground up to the end. It lasted quite some time, then the gun fight ceases, we never heard of the officer again, instead we heard on the radio the insurgent cheering in the background. LT knew that the mission-gone bad, but this is what we must face and LT radioed all units to prepare to defend the refinery at all cost no matter what.
When we were guarding our position, a radio transmission was picked up saying that the insurgent was all over the refinery, it seem that the insurgent found a faster route in the refinery beating us by a thread, the transmission was never ending, constantly asking for support for all available unit in the Grid, Mclaren picked up the message and was concerned that the main objective maybe in jeopardy, he radioed LT about the situation and was requesting to pull out of the guard detail and go for the refinery, LT declined at first and ordered him to stand down, again frantic radio transmission was constantly being picked up, until we saw some of the NATO forces actually retreating, saying that the refinery was about to be overrun, again Mclaren radioed LT firmly requesting to go in the refinery and assist remaining NATO forces, and again LT declined saying ¡§Stand Down Soldier¡¨, we know that the refinery was not doing good, until the commanding officer in charged of the defense of the refinery came out wounded, coordinated with LT saying that the insurgent was about to be on top of them, LT got no more option but to sent RBG in the eye of the storm, LT radioed Mclaren and ordered him to proceed to GRID DELTA and take some Mercs with him, Mclaren ordered me to stay with LT in holding our position in the left, Mclaren took some of the NATO forces and heads to the target.
Meanwhile, LT call on to me to come to him, I saw LT at the side of the road talking to some of the wounded soldiers coming out of the fight in the refinery, I proceeded to LT¡¦s position and received instruction from him to move-out and scout the other side of the hill, LT felt something was not right about the grass movement, he wanted to place a sentry to watch over the road and he ask me to do it, upon receiving orders from him, I immediately pull out of my position and went up the hill to check for any enemy activities.
Back at the refinery, upon arriving there, Mclaren saw disorganization from our troops there, the line was obviously been broke, he tried to re-established the line to hold back the ravaging insurgent and took refuge in the corner of the target building, he waited and waited not long until he tasted some action, insurgent in great number was rushing in, he fired his M16 BushMaster none stop until he was able to push back the enemy, some of the NATO forces saw him gallantly holding the line and decided to join him, they fire and fire their weapon until literary emptying one whole magazine just to slow down the enemy, and they were successful in doing so, the insurgent got a hard time penetrating, but still a lot of our guys was being killed in that fight but everyone stood their ground.
Back at the roadside, I was climbing the hill when suddenly I saw 2 tango¡¦s running to my position, call on to LT and signal him of enemy was approaching. LT signal me to take out the tangos and signal him that I will take the shot, I plan on surprising the enemy by delivering suppressive fire in their position, but when I was about to fully climb up I was the one got the surprise when I saw that I was already surrounded by insurgent crawling below the other side of the hill. Got a bit panic and discharged all of my ammo firing sporadically in their direction, as I was firing I started running back to LT¡¦s position but was cut-off by insurgent from the other side, dropped to the ground covering my head and can do nothing but to stay there for the time being.
At the refinery, presence of insurgent forces are getting stronger and stronger, but even with their superior number, they weren¡¦t able to take out the refinery, YET!, casualty was mounting there some of the NATO forces made a makeshift casualty depot to attend for the wounded, Mclaren saw that another line was broken and he knew that he need to do something about it, he radioed back to LT asking for help, LT replied back saying ¡§NEGATIVE ON THAT REQUEST, WE¡¦RE FACING SOME SERIOUS nuts HERE OURSELVES, I¡¦LL NEED ALL AVAILABLE MEN I CAN GET. FOR THE MEANTIME, HOLD YOUR GROUND UNTIL GROUND FORCES ARRIVED, GOD SPEED¡¨, Mclaren was frustrated to here it but understood the call LT made, we are being attacked in all direction like what we predicted earlier, but the only thing that came to our mind was a famous saying from a captain, he said ¡§If we have to give our lives to these bastard, we give them hell first before we do¡¨. Mclaren had no choice but to cover the broken line, he constantly shifting from one corner to another to hold back the enemy.
LT meanwhile was calling for me but cannot make contact with him for I was surrounded already with tangos, gun fight broke LT engaged the enemy, the enemy gave a devastating suppressive fire from our guys situated at the other side of the hill, LT took cover and fought back, he still kept on calling on my location but cannot do nothing for the enemy might detect me, then suddenly I heard LT got HIT, and I know I should have done something to stop it, tried crawling uphill and out flanked the enemy at the rear undetected, from there I can clearly see the tangos position, they were busy firing at our boys from the other side and forgot to cover their six, started firing in single mode to avoid detection, one by one they went done, one tango spotted me and shouted to his comrade ¡§nuts WE HAVE ONE HERE, ON YOUR GUARD¡¨ they started firing wildly in my position, but before they do I already run to another location, the tangos was now alerted to my presence.
Mclaren was so tired in holding two position at the same time, he saw the insurgent doing a kamikaze move in suppressive firing mode, he gave them the dose of their own doing, firing his weapon to give them hell, the insurgent still kept on coming as if he was fighting a ghost, suddenly he exhausted his ammo and had no time to reload, in a nick of time shifted to his secondary weapon which was a MP5 SD6 and fired it suppressing the enemy, making a stated that rushing to his position was like rushing to your death, and for some reason the insurgent was intimidated about the gallant effort he¡¦s giving in holding his position. Mclaren knew that his running low on ammo and if the ground force would take more time, the refinery might fall to the enemy¡¦s hand. He radioed LT again, LT responded and informed him that he was hit and was in a medic depot tending his wound and Oneal was somewhere behind enemy lines, LT said to Mclaren ¡§ IT¡¦S ALL UP TO YOU IN DEFENDING THE TARGET, I HAVE MY HAND FULL HERE, ENEMY COULD OVERTAKE US AT ANY TIME, WE¡¦RE FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES HERE¡¨, Mclaren frantically asked when will the ground force arrive, LT replied ¡§ HOLD YOUR GROUND SOLDIER THE GROUND FORCE WILL ARRIVE SOON, ETA UNKNOWN¡¨, Mclaren informed LT that casualty was mounting on his side and need immediate extraction, LT said ¡§ NEGATIVE ON EXTRACT, YOU HAVE TO STAY PUT UNTIL SUPPORT ARRIVED¡K.¡¨ But before the transmission end the gun fight again started and Mclaren dropped his radio and start firing back, LT was calling to Mclaren, he was worried that the enemy might have overrun his position, then suddenly Mclaren went back in the radio and said ¡§SORRY LT, GOT TO GO, HELL IS COMING THIS WAY, SEE YOU AT THE OTHER SIDE¡¨, and from then on Mclaren and the remaining NATO forces gave their effort to hold the refinery at all cost, Mclaren ordered the wounded that was still able to bare arms and fight, shouting ¡§ ALL MEN THAT CAN HOLD A WEAPON AND CAN STILL SHOOT, COME FORWARD AND PREPARE TO DEFEND YOURSELVES¡¨, he somehow manage to regain the morale of the soldiers and started to stare at death as if they welcoming it, the insurgent was so surprise about the soldiers at the refinery, as if they were ready to embrace death, but the insurgent push on to conquer them.
At the road side, I was again cut-off by the tango¡¦s searching for my position, then luck came when the tangos searching for me got hit by the NATO sniper, all insurgent turn their attention in destroying the sniper details, they somehow forgotten about me, I heard our snipers got hit, and thought to my self that I need to do something or else they will be killed, move out to a position were I can see the insurgent, and located the tango firing at our sniper, gave a single shot but the tango didn¡¦t went down, instead tried looking for me, again I shoot at him this time I got him but before he went down, he informed his comrade of my position, this time the insurgent was all around me, I can do nothing any more they know where I am, and cannot run no longer, tried my best to take as many tango as I can but the odds was so overwhelming that in the end I succumb to death.
But before everything got worse the main ground forces arrived, the insurgent was repelled back in the left side of the Grid, LT immediately informed the Ground Force CO to quickly head for the refinery, to save it as soon as possible and save the soldiers still defending it., Mclaren was so relieved to see the cavalry came.
After the chaos LT assess the damage, he lost a lot of his men, casualty was high and he got injured himself, but at the end of the day, he know that we achieved our goal in holding and defend the refinery. Even if the action of all the soldiers who survive and those who didn¡¦t will not be heard, but their bravery and courage will be a testament to us on what really happen within the eye of the storm.
